The Technology Lab" is open Monday-Friday from 9-5 as an open lab. It consists of 2 desk top and 1 laptop pc, as well as one Mac. It is open to the 2500 residents of the island, including summer residents. Originally, the technology lab had classes, but the center has found that it works better for their clientele to offer 1:1 tutoring. People sign up for this service and it is offered two afternoons a week by a volunteer. Computers are loaded with standard software (MS Office) as well as application specific online tutorials for Word, Excel, etc. In the summer 2 additional Mac laptops are added to the technology lab thanks to a partnership between LIFRC and the local school district. Movie making classes for middle and high school youth are offered - taught by a school district teacher during the year and the LIFRC instructor during the summer. People accessing other services that LIFRC provides (ELL, basic needs, workshops) are encouraged to use the technology lab.
